Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Minivans Recalled for Fire-Prone Battery

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has issued a statement about the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivan recall, recommending "out of an abundance of caution that customers avoid parking their vehicles inside buildings or structures. In addition, FCA advises customers not to park near other vehicles, or place wet items or liquids that may spill in the second-row seating area."

Chrysler is issuing a recall for approximately 27,634 model year 2017 to 2020 Pacifica
hybrid minivans due to possible corrosion on a 12-volt battery connection that could pose a fire risk. The vehicles' high-voltage batteries and electrified propulsion systems are not affected. Gasoline-powered vans are also not affected, parent company FCA said in a statement.

The 12-volt battery system in the Pacifica hybrid powers auxiliary features such as the radio and remote-controlled garage door openers. Corrosion on the battery's connection has led to a few fires, which occurred in Canada and Minnesota, FCA said, with one minor injury reported.

Chrysler recommends that owners of 2017 to 2020 model Pacifica hybrids avoid parking their minivans inside buildings or structures just in case, because of the fire risk. Additionally, they should not place wet items or liquids that could spill into the second row.

Owners will be notified via mail starting in the week of June 22 and will be advised to have their minivans inspected by a dealer to find any corrosion. More details of the recall are expected to be available soon on the NHTSA recalls website.
