Air Canada To Begin Los Angeles A220 Service From September

Airbus A220 in AC LIvery

In March, we reported that Air Canada was going to be launching Airbus A220 service between Montreal and Los Angeles. The service was supposed to commence on August 1st and run through September 7th. Of course, within a matter of weeks, Air Canada and other major airlines would drastically cut their scheduled services due to the global health crisis, leaving many exciting new routes in limbo and possibly off the table.  Now data reveals that the route is back on.

Small plane, long flight

It is already well known that the Airbus A220 is a gamechanger when it comes to low-capacity, medium-haul operations. The relatively small aircraft is a clean-sheet design that incorporates the latest technologies to achieve impressive efficiencies and range.

In this case, the aircraft is being used by Air Canada to supplement daily services between Montreal and Los Angeles. The airline is to offer three flights daily between the two cities, two of these flights being operated by the Airbus A320. The third service will use the Airbus A220-300.

According to data from RoutesOnline.com, a recently filed schedule update indicates that this will take place in September and October 2020. This service is set to begin on September 8th.

Outbound, the daily service will depart from Montreal at 18:55, arriving at Los Angeles at 21:48 as flight AC775.
If data is correct, the return journey will have the aircraft spend the night in Los Angeles. Thus, the service will depart LAX at 09:35 the next day, arriving in Montreal at 17:53. The flight number for this journey is AC782.

A six-hour service on the A220

Six hours on the A220 should be pleasant for many customers flying with Air Canada. The aircraft offers numerous features with passenger comfort in mind.

“Thanks to its innovative design and state-of-the-art technology, the A220 features an extraordinary range to carry you farther – and faster – across North America than ever before.” -Air Canada

Configured in economy to have 2-3 seating, most of the A220’s seats in this class offer a standard amount of width at 18+ inches. However, the jets have the added benefit of an extra-wide middle seat at 19 inches – the widest economy seats in Air Canada’s fleet.

Furthermore, the new jet has larger windows than its narrowbody competitors and even features a window in the lavatory.

As for inflight entertainment, Air Canada has opted for a 12-inch touchscreen complete with USB-A and USB-C outlets. Beneath every 2nd seat is a 110v outlet for larger devices.

In business class, the airline says that meal service is available on most flights with a scheduled duration of more than 2 hours. This meal service will be different from what you might be used to pre-pandemic, as the airline is attempting to minimize touchpoints and offering boxed meals.
